Samoset Commissioners

Becoming a Scouting America Unit Commissioner is one of the most impactful (and often overlooked) ways to serve. Here are some strong reasons someone might step into that role:

  1. You Make a Direct Impact on Youth:  Unit Commissioners help packs, troops, crews, and ships stay healthy and strong. When units thrive, youth get better programs, better leadership, and better experiences.
  2. You Support Adult Leaders by coaching and mentoring:  Many unit leaders feel overwhelmed at times. A Unit Commissioner helps answers questions, connects leaders to resources, and helps solve unit problems.
  3. You Strengthen the district and council by improving communication, increasing retention, and supporting rechartering.
  4. It’s Flexible and Manageable.  A unit commissioner doesn’t run meetings, campouts, or manage youth directly.  It’s ideal for experienced Scouters who want to stay involved without running a full program.
  5. You Use Your Experience. You already have valuable knowledge. Commissioner service lets you multiply your experience across multiple units.
  6. Personal Growth & Leadership.  Commissioners develop coaching and mentoring skills, problem-solving ability, and organizational insight.

Commissioners are often the quiet backbone of Scouting. You may not be in the spotlight, but you help ensure the program lasts for generations.  It’s leadership at a higher level.
