Welcome Treva!

Welcome Treva McCain!

We would like to introduce Treva McCain from the Old Hickory District.  Treva will be our dining hall manager and camp cook this summer at Camp John J. Barnhardt.  She is looking forward to the opportunity to provide delicious, quality food to our campers. Treva is excited to create a menu that should have elements that will appeal to all campers. Also, she is excited to introduced more of a homemade element to the camp meals this summer.  If you're a fan of the Shepard's Pie or Salisbury Steak of years past, sorry!  Expect things like teriyaki chicken with stir-fry veggies, Taco Tuesday, chicken and sausage Jambayla, meatball subs, sloppy joes, fresh baked cinnamon rolls, and breakfast casserole with grits cooked to perfection.  And did I mention snickerdoodle cookies? Treva is excited to start serving the best quality meals to our campers and that camp is quickly approaching.

Treva loves the people she meets through scouting.  Watching a younger Scout as they grow and become more confident young adults, and watching older Scouts take their place in leadership roles is one of things Treva likes most about scouting. It is also great to talk with adult leaders, sharing ideas and experiences.  When not planning or attending Scouting events, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Mark. She also likes going to flea markets in search of cast iron that Mark and she can restore. With some recipes, only cast iron will do!

Make sure to check back in April for one of Treva's Camp Recipes!

NYLT 2019 Save the Date

NYLT 2019 Save The Date

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the Scouts BSA premier youth leadership course.  It builds upon the foundation of ILST/C (Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops/Crews). The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what a leader must KNOW, and what a leader must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership. National Youth Leadership Training registration is currently open.  The training will cover two weekends, May 25-27 and June 14-16.  Your Scout must attend both weekends to complete their NYLT training.  For more information please visit www.centralnccouncil.com.

2019 Membership Card Changes

2019 Membership Card Changes

The BSA is committed to streamlining basic operations by putting tools in the hands of volunteers. For several years now, individuals and unit key 3 have had access to print membership cards through my.Scouting. In addition, functionality will be added to my.Scouting by January 1, 2019, to enable members of the unit key 3 to print their unit Charter Certificate.

This “self-service” functionality allows volunteers to print membership cards and the unit charter certificate in a timely manner and enhances the onboarding experience for new youth and adults.

Effective January 1, 2019, councils, including the Central NC Council,  will no longer be required to print and mail membership cards to council and district volunteers and traditional Scouting units.

This is a change to the council membership validation requirement. In addition, councils will no longer print and deliver unit charter certificates.
